TransPerfect Bridges Language Barriers for a Local Government

With an increasing number of non-English speaking residents, a local government entity in North-Central Georgia needed to ensure effective communication across all its departments, from emergency services to public health and social programs. The primary hurdle was not just providing interpretation services, but doing so in a way that was efficient, cost-effective, and compliant with local regulations.

The government entity required a solution that could seamlessly integrate into existing operations, provide on-demand interpretation services, and offer flexibility to cater to a wide range of languages. Additionally, it needed a system to track usage, manage costs, and report outcomes to maintain transparency and accountability in its language access program.

TransPerfect addressed these challenges by implementing a multifaceted solution centered around our phone-based interpretation service and the TransPerfect Access Portal. The interpretation service allowed government staff to quickly connect with professional interpreters, enabling them to assist non-English speaking citizens effectively in real-time across 27 languages.

To complement our interpretation services, we also provided document translation capabilities across 12 unique language pairs. This ensured that vital county information and program details could be accurately disseminated in multiple languages. The TransPerfect Access Portal became the cornerstone of the solution, offering real-time call data, including departmental usage, total call minutes, language preferences, and call costs. This comprehensive reporting system aided in budget control and program compliance and provided the transparency needed for reporting to the county's Board of Commissioners.
