The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic presented Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) with a unique challenge: transforming its annual Discover event, a key in-person showcase for business and government customers, into an entirely virtual experience. The event attracted over 50,000 attendees from around the world, requiring a comprehensive multilingual approach to ensure all participants felt included and informed.

The scale of the localization effort was immense. It involved delivering more than 1,000 on-demand audio files in multiple languages, coordinating live simultaneous interpretation for the event's real-time portions, and localizing 129 video assets into nine different languages. All of this had to be accomplished within a few weeks leading up to the event, adding considerable time pressure to an already complex task. The challenge was not just about translation, but about maintaining the engaging and informative nature of the content across all languages, ensuring that the virtual format did not diminish the event's impact or attendee experience.

TransPerfect devised a comprehensive solution using StudioNEXT, TransPerfect's cloud recording platform, to enhance the quality and consistency of audio files produced by the interpreters. This streamlined the interpreters' workflow by eliminating the need for bulky file transfers, simplifying version control, and automating progress reporting. As a result, interpreters could dedicate 95% of their time to actual interpretation.

For video localization, TransPerfect employed a rapid turnaround process to localize 129 video assets into nine languages each, meeting the tight pre-event deadline. This comprehensive approach ensured that all aspects of the virtual event—from pre-recorded content to live sessions—were accessible in multiple languages.

For live sessions, TransPerfect provided simultaneous interpretation through a dedicated backend platform. Remote technicians constantly monitored the sound quality and made necessary adjustments in real-time. This allowed TransPerfect to deliver nine separate language streams that HPE could offer to attendees. To ensure smooth operation, TransPerfect organized training and practice sessions for interpreters to familiarize them with the StudioNEXT platform. This preparation was crucial in maintaining high-quality interpretation throughout the event.
